Leadership Reflections
With Markus Wischenbart
Markus, how would you describe your professional journey so far?
It’s been a path defined by growth and perspective. From Europe’s structure to the Caribbean’s warmth and now Dubai’s innovation, every chapter has expanded not just my career, but my understanding of how cultures and people shape hospitality.
What originally inspired you to enter the hospitality and vacation ownership industry?
I’ve always believed that travel is one of life’s greatest teachers. My first exposure to the vacation club model revealed how powerful it could be in connecting people, creating value, and delivering experiences that last well beyond the stay.
What guiding philosophy drives your leadership at Lifestyle Group?
Purpose. Every decision should create meaning – for our guests, our partners, and our teams. Luxury, to me, is not just about what you see, but what you feel when you’re there. That belief shapes everything we build.
Lifestyle Group has expanded across continents. How do you approach global growth while maintaining authenticity?
Growth without identity is just expansion. We’ve succeeded by staying authentic to the values that define us – connection, quality, and integrity – while adapting respectfully to each culture we engage with.
What role does innovation play in your company’s evolution?
Innovation keeps us relevant, but people keep us grounded. Whether it’s digital platforms, sustainable operations, or personalized member experiences, technology should always serve connection, not replace it.
Many of your projects emphasize community and sustainability. Why is that important to you?
Hospitality must contribute to the places that make it possible. Our developments create jobs, support education, and invest in local infrastructure. Growth is only meaningful when it benefits everyone it touches.
You’ve worked with partners from the Caribbean to the Middle East. What’s the key to building lasting collaborations?
Mutual respect. The most successful partnerships are built on understanding, not urgency. When both sides share the same vision, trust becomes the foundation of everything that follows.
What advice would you give to emerging leaders in hospitality?
Stay curious. Leadership isn’t about knowing everything – it’s about being willing to learn from every person and every experience. The world is changing fast, but principles endure: honesty, consistency, and care.
And when you’re not working, how do you find balance?
Travel still inspires me, but I value time with family most. That’s where perspective comes from. The best ideas often come when you step back and allow yourself to reflect.
